Lesson 3
In this lesson we learn how to write the symbols with u. It is a short u like oo in the English book.
We write the u by putting a kind of comma at the bottom .
mu → मु, tu → तु
Compare the following:
ग – (ga), गु – (gu), म – (ma), मु – (mu)
भ – (bha), भु – (bhu), न – (na), नु – (nu)
त – (ta), तु – (tu), ल – (la), लु – (lu)

Three new consonants
ra → र , sa → स, śa → श
Unlike English the ra has a clear r sound.
śa is like English sha or French cha.
The new consonants with vowels. Note the place of the u in the r.
र रा रु र् । स सा सु स् । श शा शु श् ।

Visarga (विसर्ग)
A Visarga is a colon (deux-points) after a symbol. It is a historical s or sometimes a r which has lost its full value. Before a pause it is pronounced as a clear h. There can be a slight echo of the last vowel. तः (taḥ) is like taha, with a very short last a.
तः (taḥ), ताः (tāḥ), तुः (tuḥ) । मः (maḥ), माः (māḥ), मुः (muḥ) ।
