Default Lesson2: Connecting the letters

as an addition to nani's lesson

You though you would get away so easy, huh >) ? One form isn't enough for one letteق. You need four. Sometimes only two. The letter looks different in the beginning of a word, in the middle of a word, in the end of a word and alone. Compare the forms with "jeem"
You can easily distinguish the different forms..

then the actual forms

"ALIF"
you can connect alif only when it's the last letter of a word. Otherwise it 'stands alone'!

first : ا
middle : ا
last : ـــا
alone : ا

"BAA, TAA, THAA"
these all look almost the same.. except for the dots.

for ba:
first : بـــ
middle : ـــبـــ
last :ـــب
alone : ب

for ta just take the dot off and add two above as in ت
for tha same but add three as in ث

alone - last - middle - first

بــبــب ب baa
تــتــت ت taa
ثــتــت ت thaa

"JEEM, HAA, KHAA"

alone - last - middle - first
جــجــج ج jeem
حــحــح ح haa/7aa
خــخــخ خ khaa

"DAAL, DHAAL"

alone - last - middle - first
د ـد ـد د daal
ذ ـذ ـذ ذ dhaal

"RAA', ZAY"

alone - last - middle - first
ر ـر ـر ر raa
ز ـز ـز ز zay

"SEEN, SHEEN, SAAD, DAAD"

alone - last - middle - first

"TAA, THAA, AYN, GHAYN"

alone - last - middle - first

"FAA, QAAF, KAAF, LAAM, MEEM, NOON"

alone - last - middle - first

"HAA, WAW, YAA"

alone - last - middle - first

VOWELMARKS

As you might now, you only mark LONG vowels when writing in Arabic. Short ones can be marked with vowel marks. See:

B بْ For a plain consonant, no vowel you put a little circle above it. It's SUKUN
BA بَ For short a you put a little line above it. It's called FAT7A
BAA بَا For long a you put a little line above it and alif after it.

BI بِ for short i/e you put a little line under it..it's KASRA
BII بِي For long ee you put a little line under it and yaa after it.

BU بُ for short u/o you put a little waw above it.. it's DAMMA
BUU بُو for long oo you put a little waw above it and waw after it.

for double consonant, as BB you put shadda above the letter.

بّ

Now, let's look at the word MAGHRIBIY..
ma = مـَــ
gh = ــغْــ
ri = ــرِ
biy = بيّ

and yalla we get مـَـغْـرِبِيّ

try writing

ISM
ANA
SALIM
SABAA7
JAYYID

have fun learning..
