well, i think it is like this:
first it was only oral, had many dialects and accents, not a 'formal' way to speak or write.. then this guy agricola gathered some words etc and created the formal finnish. i don't know when was this. might be some years ago

today finnish has many loan words from english and swedish.. and also from russian. you can see the number of the loan english words in the computer terms..
fontti
printata (to print) (tulostaa also used)
printteri (tulosting also used) - a printer
etc.

many times it works by adding -i to the english word.. and propably doubling the last consonant.
