What do you mean by "orginal form"? Do not you consider, for example, 文言文 as more orginal?

I would like to note that there are not only Mandarin and Cantonese, but there are rather more local dialects, so it is not correct to compare only two of them, even if they are the most numerous in number of their speakers.
