The support of the exports of fruit and vegetables from Africa - Case study
Africa occupies a marginal place in world trade. The promotion and diversification of the exports of the African countries, in particular for agricultural products, seems essential. However, the exporters encounter a certain number of obstacles to the development of their trade: availability and cost of air and marine transport, lack of adapted infrastructures for communication and handling, difficulties in accessing commercial credits and information, lack of technical support, necessity of promoting their products on the regional and international markets...
Therefore, the African exporters must confront these multiple problems, which handicap their capacity to offer quality on a regular basis and to penetrate the international markets. This study permits an approach to the African context of exports of agricultural products by analyzing two support systems for exports of fruit and vegetables: the Centre Technique Horticole d’Antananarivo (CTHA) in Madagascar and the Sénégalaise d’Exportation de Produits Agricoles et de Services (SEPAS) in Senegal. The aim of the study is the analysis of how these two professional associations answer the needs of their members and how they fit into a global framework of promotion and dissemination of African foodstuffs on the North and South markets.
