Hi,
I strongly support Clare who’s taking part in the 'Thirty hour famine' event, those 30 hours during which she’ll go without food to collect funds for World Vision. As far as I know, we don’t have the same approach in France. No self-applied hunger but participation of pupils and students in humanitarian causes or non-governmental organizations. Clare is very strong and motivated.
I also signed a petition against the Chinese repression in Tibet as well as against the political repression in the whole country, the censure of the Internet, the control over the press…
I’m worried about the social rights in this country: a number of minorities, dissidents or social categories raise a problem in Beijing. The Chinese growth is based on the exploitation of the working people who are trailed along just like cattle to work camps, ‘enterprises’ as the state calls them. It makes me angry.
As for a boycott, I’m doubtful. It may be unfruitful. The IOC president reminded Beijing of their promises before they were awarded the games: ‘Awarding them the games would speed up the social questions and the human rights’. Under the pressure of nations, may China loosen the vice and open a dialogue.
Have a nice weekend.
Love,
Marie-Paule
