After two stormy days in London and Paris, the Olympic flame arrived in San Francisco on Tuesday. Numerous incidents happened in Paris. About twenty people were taken in for questioning. The ceremony at the Paris Town Hall was cancelled.
There were ludicrous scenes of policemen on roller skates surrounding a bus in which the flame had to be sheltered. The stage of the flame in Paris turned out to be a fiasco for the organizers, a tomfoolery for an extra large police contingent, a slap in the face of the Chinese regime, a victory for all those who, opponents of the Beijing regime, conceived the day as a test.
I wonder if you could see some pictures on television. Are there debates in Canada about the possibility of boycotting the opening ceremony? Or debates about the Chinese represssion in Tibet?
Many friends of mine went to see the flame and didn't see it. Some had brought a Tibetan flag so that human rights be respected at last in this country. I wasn't in Paris on that day. Debates are launched through mails or MSN
