I think Dusio is saying that he lives in "now." That his own death or the end of the world is something that cannot effect him since he has accepted the fact that "now" is alive and "some day" he will be dead. So, for him, only the "now" is important.

P.S. Dec 21, 2012? Who knows. But it is highly likely that coming change in climate will end modern civilization. And it is certain that sooner or later a big enough asteroid or comet will hit the Earth and kill off all mammals. Just a matter of time. If we watch a couple of billon years, the Sun will become a red giant and expand. The Earth will be burnt up. So, yeah, the end is coming. It might be tommorrow or a couple billon years.
It has always been good advice to live each day like it might be you first but even more likely that it will become tommorrow.
