Look at it this way: no matter which language you chose, you're already half way through to learning the other

because they are similar in structure, grammar and vocabulary (as mentioned above).
Anyway, I would chose having your future in mind: are you more likely to travel around Latin America (spanish) or Western Europe/West Africa (french).
If you don't know, take spanish!
And learn italien, portugese, rumanian and french afterwards
