Personnal pronouns
In french, we use personnal pronouns, before a verb, for example : Il mange
In some cases, like in english, you can write as well " Il mange " as " Le chat mange " . The only difference is that the subject is undetermined in the first phrase, and determined, in the other phrase, like in english, when you write " he eats" and " the cat eats ".
To speak of myself, I'll use the personnal pronoun : Je
To speak of you, I'll use: Tu
To speak of it/him/her : Il/Elle ( him and it has got the same pronoun )****
To speak of us, I'll use ; Nous/On*
To speak of many " you " I'll use : Vous**
To speak of them, I'll use : Il/Elles***
* : The pronoun " On " is a little special, so, we'll develop it on another thread.
** : The pronoun " Vous " can be use as a polite way to speak to somebody. Like the " On " , we'll develop it in another thread
*** : The difference between english and french is that, for the third plural person, in french, we make the difference between men and women.
**** : "It" can be translate as " her " or " him " in french, for objects or animals as well. So, you haven't got another way that to learn vocabulary and gender by heart.
