Hi, I would just change one thing. The phrase, "Je vais vous quitter" would be translated as I'll leave, or I am going to leave you. But it isn't something you would usually write in a letter. I don't know why, but it just sounds a little strange. In this context it almost sounds like the person is going to leave to go somewhere else. I would just end it like this:
Dear Charlie and kin,
I am anxious to give you some news which has been good up to now.
I hope you are doing well, especially morally because I know how hard it is to lose a loved one.
I miss my sister a lot. We didn't see each other much but we talked on the telephone and we were very close to each other. I wish all your family are well.
Sending love and hugs to you and my nieces and nephews,
