What I find interesting is that for every proverb that expresses a truth about human behaviour, there is another one that says the opposite:
Many hands make light work.
Too many cooks spoil the broth.
Fools rush in where angels fear to tread.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Out of sight, out of mind.
Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
Which just proves that human behaviour cannot be reduced to simple maxims.
