«The goal of our experiment is to demonstrate that liberating the base of the cranium and C0/C1/C2 from intraosseous and interosseous lesions will normalize the head’s positioning in a sagittal plane.
Our study’s objective is to decompact the key structures of the cranium’s base and of C0/C1/C2 and then analyze the changes of the head’s position on a sagittal plane. Eighty-one (81) men between the age of 25 and 45 have participated with the average age being 34 give or take five years. Since literature mentions that prolonged sitting positions encourage cervical protraction, our subjects had a sitting work position 50% or more of the time. Our study is an experimental double-blind research. The 81 subjects were randomly divided into two groups, the experimental group (40) and the control group (41). As the experimental group received an osteopathy treatment using a protocol for the decompaction the chosen zone, the other group received a placebo treatment. A digital camera (CANON A70) was used to perform a biomechanical postural analysis within a first objective evaluation of each participant to measure the angle between the ear’s tragus and the acromion. Markers were installed on anatomical points of reference thus allowing the camera to sense the signal. The Biotonix software then analyzes this data. The Biotonix protocol is applied by a third party, which specializes in this system (appendix 1). In order to obtain precise data, three pictures were taken in three different angles, the average of the three was then used to analyze the results. 0º would be the angle of an ideal posture as established by Kendall.
This evaluation is conducted in three phases: first the pre-treatment (A), then the post-treatment (B) and finally a re-test a week later (C). After each Biotonix evaluation, a second therapist performs a subjective evaluation with the help of an evaluation grid. The participants were called in a week later for an identical evaluation. The objective of this visit was to measure the treatment’s effect in time.
