Après avoir étudié un texte sur l'immigration aux USA durant la première moitié du 20eme siècle, j'ai du faire une sorte de résumé en anglais dont le sujet est

"What makes a good immigrant according to the text and according what you know of American people ?"

Mon texte :

A lot of people emigrated in the United States. Most came from Europe, they were seeking a refuge against the religious persecutions or just wanted to take part in the American dream. They travelled by boats and arrived at Ellis island, near New York. But they became not automatically Americans: 250 000 people were refused by the centre of Ellis island between 1892 and 1954.
To be a good immigrant, it was necessary not to be sick. Doctors put(ted ? did put ?) chalks marks on the coats of the immigrants who needed a medical examination. The contagious people were sent to the hospital but the people with permanent disability were sent back in their country of origin. After the medical examinations, the immigrants were questioned by officials about their name and their country of origin. They were asked too if they can read and write, speak english, if they could find a job … It was necessary conditions to become an american. (All the ?) anarchists, communists and criminals were refused. The immigrants were terrified by this legal examination and to be sent back at home but in fact most of them become American(s ?) and a lot of American today are immigrants’ descendants.
