I suggest you look up the word « encounter » at :

where you may see the translation into different languages.

"The word must have the following idea associated: *encounters of people*. You can also think, if also applicable, as *encouters of people, cultures, races, etc.* (in a more philosophical sense) ".

To give the meaning you wish, I’d suggest a different translation for the Spanish “encuentros”:

English: getting to know people, different cultures, etc.
or: becoming/getting acquainted with …

German: Begegnungen (for “encounters”) or:
Menschen, (andere) Kulturen … kennen lernen (for: getting to know people, cultures, etc.)

Catalan: trobadas

Romanian: a face cunostinta cu oameni, culturi etc.
