If you are not being able to use the language you want to learn, my best advice is to try to find a theater or TV programs that offer the language you want. I am trying to learn better Italian so I try to go to a theater that shows Italian films. My trouble is like yours. Here in Texas, USA we have too many people that speak improper Spanish and it is heard everywhere, but is not true to Spanish language. I sometimes confuse the Spanish slang terms with my Italian words. They sound similar but are very different meanings.
So as I said try to go to local foreign films at theater or at universities nearby?
Good luck to you my friend,
Cinema
