Well, this sema, or sama could be "shemah" in hebrew, meanning "listen".
This could explain why you heard it in church.
There is jew prayer that says something like:
" Shemah, Ishrael, adonai eloenu, adonai ehat"
(Listen, oh Israel, the Lord is our Lord, the Lord is one).
