Hi,
A little bit of general culture wouldn't harm anyone: Czechoslovakia doesn't exist any more, since 1993, it was peacfully devided into Czech republic and Slovakia. To refer to the times before 1993, I would rather say
former (or
ex) Czechoslovakia (as this term doesn't exist anymore).
To get to the point, Smayda doesn't ring a bell, it sounds a bit Czech but the ortograph might have been changed in anglosaxon transcription to be easier to pronounce for anglophones. It might come from a czech name majda or even Smajda. majda may come from a Czech verb - from the infiniv majdat which means
shamble, waddle ( in CZ it's an old word, not too commonly used).
