(0) Cotton growing is the biggest polluting culture.
Indeed this growing uses 24 per cent of pesticides in the world whereas it only represents 2.4 per cent of agricultural area. It is estimated that it contaminates 25 million persons every year and pollutes ground, air and water. People who live on such growing are the first victims. In India, a lot of pesticides are used. For instance DDT is used in this country. In Mexico 17 pesticides are used which are forbidden<=(Je suppose) in Europe. There is a lot of disaster with cotton growing. For example the Aral Sea is actually 80% smaller than 18 years ago.
With organic cotton growing, people are less endangered because there is no pesticide. Morever this growing needs more employees than traditional cotton growing.
To manufacture the tee-shirt Fidji, Ideo works with two producers. Both are based in India. The first one is the cotton producer and the second one makes garments.
Dye respects European standards and there is no heavy metal in it. When the garment is white, no chlorine is used. Some dyes used by Ideo are herbal. In herbal dyeing there are plants,(of course!) which have medical virtues.
Silkscreen printing used by Ideo are with water and each silkscreen printing brings out environmental or social messages.
