The cloning technique consists in removing the nucleus (which contain all the chromosomes, that is DNA) from an adult cell (skin for example or mammary gland cell for Dolly) and injecting it into an ovocyte which nucleus has previously been removed. The ovocyte comes from the foster mother, which is another animal that the one the adult cell to be cloned has been sampled from. Then, the fusion between the two cells is processed thanks to an electric field. This step often damages cells. If succeeded, the embryon is formed and will start to develop. The baby will have the same genes as the cell donator. So is made a reproduction with no impregnation. Dolly is the first mammal ever cloned using an adult cell. Actually, mammal cloning using adult cells remains an extremely tough experiment.
