Bonjour! J'ai fait quelques petites corrections pour vous, mais c'est très bon.

"8. a. There are three major differences between Blackburn and its inhabitants over seventy years ago and now.
Indeed, Blackburn's landscape has changed. Now, Blackburn is an industrial town where chimneys are cold and smokeless, whereas over seventy years ago, the chimneys belched a lot of smoke.
Moreover, Blackburn's inhabitants changed too. Now at 5:30, the narrator can see a few calm people who are wearing few caps and no shawls. However, over seventy years ago, the narrator saw a lot af poeple in a hurry to come back to home and people were wearing a cap or a shawl.
Finaly, there is a new atmosphere in Blackburn. The old noisy and alive town has become calm.

9. a. The narrator expected to see a lot of factories and hurried people in the noisy and alive Griffin Street.

b. He actually sees here a very calm town where people are relaxed and where factories' chimneys are cold and smokeless.

10. Lignes 84-86, the two characters have diverging views. Indeed, the driver thinks that his customer is disappointed because Blackburn is very different from the town where he was born. But the narrator doesn't agree : "everything is here". In my mind, he is satisfied because he has found what he sought : his childhood's rememberances."

(you must use the article "a" in "a few calm people", because if you say, "the narrator can see few calm people", you suggest that most of the people that the narrator can see are not calm. However, you are correct to say "wearing few caps".

The word "whereas" is a good word to use when you want to compare two things. However, the two things that you compare must be in the sentance together. For example I can say: "My sister likes cheese, whereas I like chocolate". I can not say: "My sister likes cheese. Whereas I like chocolate." But I can say: "My sister likes cheese. However, I like chocolate."
